EL-29 Longitudinal and torsional stiffness of complete footwear


The main objective of this test equipment is to evaluate the complete comfort of the shoe. To perform this evaluation two constraints are measured

  • the "longitudinal stiffness of the shoe"
    The force required to bend the shoe at an angle representing a bending of 50 ° of the foot or the maximum angle that can be reached without exceeding a critical curvature is determined. The longitudinal stiffness of the shoe is then calculated using or the applied force or the bending angle is achieved.
  • the "torsional rigidity of the shoe,"
    The test piece is bent along its length to a fixed rotation angle. The time necessary to twist the sample is recorded as a measure of rigidity in torsion.

The test methods are applicable to all types of shoes subjected to wear bending.
